Nashville, Tennessee was the site of the recent National Rural Water Association Annual Conference on September 24-26 held at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. In its magnificent setting; the NRWA welcomed 2,000 attendees from around the nation representing public water and wastewater utilities.

The Conference offered 3 days of educational sessions, an exhibit hall filled with products and services of interest as well as numerous other activities to capture and hold the interest of those attending.

During the Opening Session and Awards Ceremony on Monday, September 24th, hundreds of water and wastewater professionals were eager to get the Conference underway. The NRWA Awards Committee Chaired by Ken Watson from Texas hosted a Recognition Ceremony for the State Rural Water Associations throughout the U. S. Six Categories were up for "Grabs". They were:

  • State Association of the Year
  • Outstanding Achievement in Legislative Initiatives
  • Outstanding Achievement in Training
  • Outstanding Achievement in Public Relations
  • Outstanding Achievement in Technical Assistance
  • Outstanding Achievement in Member Services

All 50 State Rural Water Associations were given the opportunity to submit their outstanding achievements in each award category heading. Selections were then made by the Awards Committee for recognitions of those demonstrating outstanding Excellence in Category performance.

As the winners were announced, Alabama was among the top six receiving the
"Excellence in Technical Assistance for 2012" Award. The Award recognizes the State
Association who demonstrated outstanding on-site technical assistance to their member utilities. Technical Assistance is offered by the ARWA in many service categories with some of the most common including leak surveys, valve locations, smoke testing, sewer camera videoing, water and wastewater rate studies, source water assessments, emergency response assistance as well as other services upon request. The ARWA has been recognized each year since 2005 for Outstanding Excellence in a variety of the Award Categories.
