The ARWA Board of Directors established a Scholarship Fund named the "John A. Garrett Scholarship Fund." This fund was organized for educational promotion of water and wastewater related careers throughout the State.

Six scholarships are offered annually to individuals who meet the criteria. Two recipients are selected from each of three regions representing North, Central and South Alabama (see map) in the amount of $750 per recipient.

The applicant must be a dependent child of a water or wastewater utility employee or Board Member with 2 years or more experience and the utility must be a current member of Alabama Rural Water Association to be eligible. Read more about Eligibility.

Judging is based upon ACT scores, GPAs, extracurricular activities, reference letters and leadership potential.

ARWA Provides Educational Assistance…
2010 Scholarships Awarded

As the month of May each year brings another school year to a close, it is also a time to offer assistance to many young graduates who are interested in continuing their goals to include a higher educational degree.

The ARWA has for many years supported an Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser in support of the John A. Garrett Scholarship Fund. The 2010 Fundraiser which was organized by the Association Golf Tournament Planning Committee consisting of Jeff Harrison, Southeastern Tank; Kevin Smith, Neptune Technologies; Ronnie Steadham, Mueller Company; Mark Harris, Consolidated Pipe & Supply; and Wes Self, Integra Water, LLC provided the monetary support to offer two $750 scholarships to deserving applicants in each of the State’s three regions.

Applicants are judged on scholastic and leadership abilities as well as their community involvement. For 2010, 52 application packages were received as the winners were selected. Chosen to receive the ARWA educational scholarships for the Fall 2010 enrollment were:
