Groundwater Source Protection

George Marodis
Groundwater Specialist:
George Marodis

We established the ARWA Groundwater Source Protection Program to

(1) protect drinking water sources by providing assistance in the development of local wellhead/ground water protection plans and

(2) to provide assistance in the research and development of local wellhead/ground water protection plans utilizing the 5 steps designated by this program (read more below).

As part of this program, we

  • Provide professional one-on-one "on-site" assistance and training to rural and small communities in implementing local wellhead/ground water protection plans.
  • Provide liaison and assistance in the development of local wellhead/ground water protection plans utilizing the 5 steps designated by this program and performing contaminant inventory surveys to determine the potential for groundwater contamination.
  • Facilitate coordination, communication and collaboration between the rural and small communities and local, state and federal agencies to meet the state specific needs in the development and implementation of the plan.
  • Provide outreach material and groundwater education to rural and small communities by meeting with schools and civic groups and supporting Ground Water Festivals statewide.
  • Meet the needs of rural and small communities through strong State and National Organizations.
